Spanish bass-baritone Juan Lago, son of Spanish immigrants, grew
up in Zurich, Switzerland, where he came into contact with music
at an early age. After completing his Matura, he studied voice
at the „Zürcher Hochschule der Künste“. Already during this
time, he gained his first performing experiences at the opera
house in Lucerne, Switzerland.
In concert tours throughout Switzerland and Germany, he has sung
roles such as Leporello, Figaro, Papageno and Don Giovanni. In
Nino Rota’s „Aladdin and the Magic Lamp“, he performed the role
of the Magician at the Volkhaus Zürich and in the Tonhalle St.
Gallen. In Gala concerts celebrating the 200th birthday of
Giuseppe Verdi, he performed arias from Verdi’s „Macbeth“ and
„Don Carlos“.
His wide range of repertoire and expertise in five languages (in addition to his mother tonques – Spanish and German – he is also fluent in Italian, French and English) has also led him to various opportunities throughout Europe in fields of sacred and concert performance: for example Mozart’s „Requiem“ and Mozart’s „Coronation Mass“ at the Salzburg Cathedral, Haydn’s „Creation“ as well as numerous oratorios such as Schubert’s „Mass is B flat Major“ during the Salzburg Summer Festival.
After completing his studies at the „Zürcher Hochschule der Künste“ he continued his vocal training at the Tel Aviv University, earning an „Artist Diploma“ in opera, oratorio and Lied with the distinction „magna cum laude“. He went on to study with Kammersänger Dieter Schweikard in Cologne and Hamburg.
In
